ICT Hardware Services Manager

Position Summary The BBP -12 ICT Hardware Services Manager is responsible for supporting technology hardware for school administrators, faculty, staff, and student users. The ICT Hardware Services Manager works closely with the ES/MS/HS Educational Technology (ET) Specialists, Network Manager, the Software Services Manager, and the Director of Information Technology. The K-12 ICT Hardware Services Manager may be required to assist with other areas of technical support as needed by the school. Working closely with the Director of Information Technology, the ICT Hardware Services Manager supports and implements the philosophy, policies, and procedures of the ICT Department. The ICT Hardware Services Manager supports Canadian Academy’s core values, mission, and strategic objectives.

Supervisor: Network Manager
Work Conditions: This is a full-time position. Holiday time will be arranged during school holidays but will be coordinated with other ICT staff to ensure network stability and management.

Technical Duties

  1. Install and maintain computers throughout the school (300+ computers)
    1. Maintenance includes: upgrades and patches, end-of-year maintenance, replacing defective hardware as necessary.
    2. Maintain equipment “in-house” where servicing is appropriate
    3. Manage all outsourced repairs.
    4. Facilitate research for hardware and peripheral equipment acquisitions in Japan.
    5. Facilitate local orders.
  2. Assist faculty and staff with the operation of computers and related equipment (file recovery, scanners, cameras, etc.)
    1. Maintain and set up multimedia resources for teachers in classrooms as requested
    2. Assist Japanese teachers and staff.
  3. Assist Network Manager.
    1. Facilitate outsourced email service.
    2. Facilitate communication with local companies.
    3. Manage software backup system, and license information.
    4. Enter/delete computers from the assets database.
    5. Support the Network Manager in the management of the main switches and all the active elements along with cabling infrastructure.
  4. Assist with ICT staffing and budgeting projections on a school-wide basis. Anticipate internal school needs and propose alternative solutions.
    1. Assist the ICT Team with the day-to-day performance of duties.
    2. Be aware of the responsibilities, and support other technical staff, in maintenance and development of their areas.
    3. Continually seek and capitalize upon opportunities to increase internal CA community satisfaction and deepen CA community relationships.
    4. Assist with the development and maintenance of a school/community communication system.
    5. Easily recognize areas for internal improvement and develop plans for implementation. Lend expertise to internal teams and task forces.
Priorities for 2008-2009
  1. Provide secure automated off-site network-based backup system for essential network services.
  2. Assist planning and developing network-based backup system for essential network services.
  3. Support the development of the Learning Platform.
Evaluation: The Director of Information Technology will do one annual formal evaluation.
