Director of Information and Communication Technology
Position Summary
The Director of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is a school wide administrative position, providing leadership for the technology team. The Director oversees the management of academic, administrative, and ICT infrastructure in the school. This involves planning, organizing, and directing the programs, services, and personnel related to information technology school-wide. Working collaboratively with the school community, the Director of ICT develops a vision for how information and communication technology should enhance the teaching and learning process and improve operational efficiency. The Director of ICT must ensure that all ICT initiatives and resources are aligned and allocated in a manner that reflects Canadian Academy’s core values, mission, and strategic objectives.

Position Responsibilities
Academic:
- Organize the design, implementation, and review of K-12 ICT Technology standards and benchmarks.
- Provide ideas, guidance, and support for integration of information technology within curriculum and across disciplines.
- Provide ideas, guidance, and support for integration of information technology beyond the classroom and school day.
- Establish and approve professional development activities and presentations related to ICT and its integration in the academic program through instruction and curriculum planning.
- Motivate, encourage, and inspire faculty to employ ICT effectively and appropriately in their instruction.
- Research new and evolving technologies and determine their educational relevance.
- Facilitate productive and creative application of ICT among the student body.
- Teach ICT courses as needed.
- Facilitate use of Atlas Rubicon and administrate the use of Atlas Rubicon. (should be moved to curriculum coordinator or school administrators.)
- Manage and update online curriculum documents. (should be moved to curriculum coordinator or school administrator → or change to put everything in Atlas, so teachers can update their own.)
Administrative
- Continue development of the CA ICT Long Range Plan.
- Train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of assigned staff.
- Prepare and present information to various committees, including the end-of-the year report for the School Board.
- Develop, allocate, and oversee information technology budgets.
- Oversee the logistics process to ensure equitable distribution of resources.
- Work closely with ICT staff to communicate with manufacturers, vendors, consultants, and school departments to assure proper development, installation, and operation of ICT services.
- Work collaboratively with other administrators when developing, improving, and implementing new programs.
- Chair K-12 ICT committees.
- Represent ICT at meetings.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, other administrators, parents, and the community.
- Communicate school’s ICT mission and philosophy to all constituents: students, faculty, administrators, parents, prospective families, other educational professionals, media
- Establish and assess organizational strategies for the department.
- Establish and assess information management strategies.
- Inspire interest in improving education with technology and facilitate initiative and innovation in others.
Infrastructure
- Direct long-term planning for network hardware, software, wiring, and peripherals.
- Devise, institute, and review school-wide ICT support protocols.
- Ensure accurate software licensing and inventory.
- Oversee management of computer hardware.
- Assist in the implementation and development of PowerSchool.
- Assist in the coordination of the design, construction, and maintenance of the CA learning platform.
Priorities for 2008-2009
- Work with ICT Team to install and implement PowerSchool.
- Plan and coordinate the development of finalsite as a Learning Platform, including an alerts manager, athletics manager, blogs & forums, calendar manager, faculty & staff directory, intranet groups, forms manager, multimedia manager, news manager.
- Work with network manager to develop a secure network-based backup system for essential network services.
- Work with ICT Team in planning and developing a consistent student login system and network storage space.
- Work with ICT Team to develop and maintain a system to clone and update student computers using network tools.
- Work with the administration and ICT Team to continue to develop crisis management and virtual school plan.
