Curriculum Framework
Canadian Academy is in the Year of Feasibility for both the IBO PYP and MYP programs. CA will apply for IB PYP and MYP candidate status in 2008. The IBO high school courses have been taught at CA since 1980.
IBO PYP (BBP-Grade 5)
Technology and information technology skills, as defined in the CA ICT Standards for students will support, and be integrated with the PYP curriculum.
IBO MYP (Grades 6-10)
Technology and information technology skills will support, and be integrated with, the MYP curriculum. Students are required to complete 50 hours of technology use per year. Half of this time, 25 hours, must include the design cycle. Students in MYP
- are exposed to and address through their projects the three branches of technology: information, materials and systems, the design cycle
- use the design cycle for generating ideas and creating products/solutions
- work towards meeting the final aims and objectives of MYP technology
- are assessed against the published technology assessment criteria for final assessment in year 5.
IBO Diploma (Grades 11-12)
- The Information Technology in a Global Society (ITGS) course was introduced as a Standard Level course in 2007-2008.
- The IB Diploma extended essay requires students to use ICT for research, writing and presentation of the final product.
High School Graduation Requirement: Students must satisfy the following before graduation:
Students must prove competency in ICT skills. This is satisfied by taking Technology Literacy, or providing evidence of HS credit in Computers/Technology when transferring into CA, or by passing a competency test administered by the ICT Department.

- Revised ISTE Standards 2007:
- We adopted the Massachusetts ICT standards (Oct. 2008). These are included in Atlas Rubicon.
- We adopted the American Library Association Standards (Oct. 2008). These will be included in Atlas Rubicon.
- ISTE Teacher Standards for Technology - given to Strategy 1 committee to use to define an inspired employee.
CA Information and Communications Technology Standards 2007-2008
- Standard 1: Ethics - Use information and technology systems responsibly and ethically.
- Standard 2: Library and Information - Use the library and other information systems effectively and critically.
- Standard 3: Foundation - Understand basic operations and concepts.
- Standard 4: Productivity - Use information and technology tools, both collaboratively and individually, to produce quality analytical and creative works and to communicate various forms of information effectively.
- Standard 5: Research - Use information and technology tools, both collaboratively and individually, for research, problem solving, and decision-making.
