Canadian Academy Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Standards

The skills learned each year built on skills learned the previous year.
Standard 1: Ethics - Use information and technology systems responsibly and ethically.
1. (I) Demonstrate proper use and treatment of equipment.
2. (I) Cooperate with others when using technology.
3. (I) Discuss the school's technology policy.
4. (I) Discuss Internet Safety Rules.
5. (I) Describe and explain the right of ownership of created work.
Standard 2: Library and Information - Use the library and other information systems effectively and critically.
1. (I) Locate and choose appropriate picture and Book/Cassettes.
2. (I) Use a library place marker properly.
3. (I) Understand that each book has a unique location in the library.
4. (I) Follow correct circulation procedures.
5. (I) Explain the difference between an author and an illustrator.
6. (I) Explain the difference between real and not real.
7. (I) Explain different styles in book illustration.
8. (I) Demonstrate proper book care.
9. (I) Demonstrate proper library behavior
Standard 3: Foundation - Understand basic operations and concepts.
1. (D) Locate, open and quit an application.
2. (D) Use a computer menu and select icons.
3. (D) Identify program icons to open and quit an application.
4. (D) Use the mouse and keyboard for basic commands.
5. (D) Move objects on screen to sort and count them.
6. (D) Use a mouse as a pointing device.
7. (D) Use a mouse to click on icons.
8. (D) Identify program icons to open and quit an application.
9. (D) Identify and locate components of the computer and related equipment.
10. (D) Identify and locate letters, numbers, and special keys on a keyboard.
11. (D) Wake a computer from sleep or screen saver mode.
12. (D) Recognize when there are problems with the computer and call a teacher for help.
Standard 4: Productivity - Use
information and technology tools, both collaboratively and
individually, to produce quality analytical and creative works and to
communicate various forms of information effectively.
1. (I) Use a graphics program to illustrate written work.
2. (I) Make a graph to sort and understand information.
3. (I) Use a variety of multimedia resources for directed and independent learning activities.
4. (I) Complete a multimedia project from a template or from a teacher directed model.
Standard 5: Research - Use information
and technology tools, both collaboratively and individually, for
research, problem solving, and decision-making.
1. (I) Define questions to be answered
2. (I) Identify types and amount of information needed to complete a task and answer a question.
3. (I) Review information analytically and transform it into useful knowledge to answer defined questions.
4. (I) Work with a group to collaboratively research and present results.
